December 1999 CAC State Convention

Each year, CAC holds two events to which all CAC supporters are invited. The CAC State Convention, held during the Fall, shortly before the start of the Indiana General Assembly, features briefings on issues old and new which will be "in play" in the Indiana General Assembly, as well as briefings on other state and federal issues by CAC’s friends.

At the December 1999 CAC Convention, U.S. Rep. Julia Carson (D-10th, Indpls.) inspired guests with tales of battling for constituents in Congress while former U.S. Rep. Jim Jontz (D-5th, Kokomo), freshly returned from Seattle, offered an eyewitness account of still-ongoing WTO protests. CAC also hosts Citizens Lobby Day during the Winter Session of the General Assembly, which gives members a chance to speak face-to-face with legislators at the Statehouse. The 2000 Citizens Lobby Day will be held Feb. 3

CAC also hosts the biennial Consumer Rights Banquet, which honors citizen activists from across the Hoosier state. The Banquet is an opportunity to spend an evening with some of the most inspirational activists and leaders to emerge from the contemporary progressive scene.

Past Consumer Rights Banquet speakers have included legendary labor leader Ceasar Chavez, civil rights titan William Kunstler, consumer rights crusader Ralph Nader, Texas humorist and populist Jim Hightower, and retired congressman Lee Hamilton.

The Year 2000 Consumer Rights Banquet will be held December 9th, 2000.

Keep this date free, and as the year advances, call (800) 201-1210 for updates.
