CAC Joins Sierra Club's appeal of the Duke air permit granted by IDEM

Body:

At the end of January, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management approved an air permit for Duke Energy's 630 megawatt coal gasification power plant. After reviewing the permit, we believe that it violates the Clean Air Act.

CAC has joined Sierra Club's appeal of the air permit granted by the IDEM. The case will now be presented to the Indiana Office of Environmental Adjudication.

CAC welcomes the exceptional expertise and experience Sierra Club brings to challenging the air permit issued for Duke’s proposed coal gasification plant by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. The organization’s expertise on air permitting issues has been a critical aspect of Sierra Club’s success in its efforts across the country to stop construction of unnecessary, economically and environmentally detrimental coal-fired power plants, and Duke’s proposed plant certainly fits in that category.
