Farm Aid 2001 comes to Indiana Sept. 29 Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp headling concert for famly farms Farm Aid 2001 organizers have announced that the event will be held on Sept. 29 at the Verizon Wireless Music Center in Noblesville, Ind. The all-day music benefit will feature Farm Aid founders Willie Nelson, Neil Young and Indiana's own John Mellencamp, plus a special solo performance by Dave Matthews. "It is fitting that this event is being held here in Indiana, where so many of our family farms are at risk of economic failure," said Jim Hoyer, CAC's Regional and Statewide Farm Cooridnator. "We are pleased that Farm Aid 2001 will draw attention to the plight of Hoosier farmers, whose very existence is threatened by giant agribusiness." Farm Aid was organized to provide support for family farmers. Farm Aid works to educate the American public about the importance of a family farm system of agriculture. Farm Aid began in 1985 with a concert organized by Willie Nelson, Neil Young, and John Mellencamp. The determination and persistence of these artists in the fight for family farms is truly unusual. Each year they help to recruit an amazing lineup of artists who come at their own expense and donate their performances. The annual concert continues to raise funds and awareness about the urgent need to support family farmers who are struggling. In the last sixteen years, Farm Aid has developed a solid program of support for family farms and a network of farm activism. The program funds a wide range projects that include direct assistance to farm families, credit counseling, promotion of sustainable agriculture, anti-factory farm organizing, and grassroots efforts to keep families farming the land.
