At the end of January, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management approved an air permit for Duke Energy's 630 megawatt coal gasification power plant. After reviewing the permit, we believe that it violates the Clean Air Act.

CAC has joined Sierra Club's appeal of the air permit granted by the IDEM. The case will now be presented to the Indiana Office of Environmental Adjudication.

The following is the letter that the Office of Utility Consumer Counselor (OUCC) wrote in response to State Representative Dennis Avery's letter opposing the proposed Duke coal-gasification (IGCC) power plant. Duke is painting this coal-fired power plant as "clean coal" technology, which is a contradiction in terms. There is no such thing as "clean coal."
