The second half of 2017’s General Assembly is getting off to a slow start at the Statehouse. So far there have been only a handful of hearings in the House. The Senate started its calendar by hearing Indiana’s biennial budget this past Monday morning.

The deadlines for bills passing their chambers of origin took place this week. If the introduced bill failed to pass its chamber of origin the bill is considered dead. Of the 1,254 bills originally introduced in the beginning of the legislative session, 362 bills moved past their chamber of origin for further action. The House completed work on 3rd reading bills Monday and the Senate finished 3rd reading bills Tuesday. 

 

February 28, 2017

This past week was the deadline for committee hearings for introduced bills in both the House and Senate. In addition, Thursday was the deadline in the House for 2nd reading on introduced bills. Consistent with the large number of bills having passed committees, the number of bills considered on the floors of each chamber of the General Assembly grew as well.

February 20, 2017

With only one more week of committee meetings remaining, calendars filled quickly this week while Committee Chairs worked to clear their schedules of bills. CAC attended meetings of the Senate Natural Resources Committee, the House Elections Committee, the House Utilities Committee and the Senate Utilities Committee. In addition, we monitored other committees and marked the progression of legislation we’re watching on floors of the House and Senate.

This past week was by far the busiest week of the 2017 legislative session yet. CAC staff monitored six committee hearings this week and testified on legislation regarding Indiana’s water infrastructure at the House Utilities Committee and the Senate Bill 309 during the Senate Utilities Committee.
