The deadlines for bills passing their chambers of origin took place this week.

In many ways, the Indiana state legislature has a much greater impact on the lives of Indiana citizens than what happens in Washington D.C. The Citizens Action Coalition is dedicated to representing the average consumer each and every year at the Indiana General Assembly.
This past week was the deadline for committee hearings for introduced bills in both the House and Senate. In addition, Thursday was the deadline in the House for 2nd reading on introduced bills. Consistent with the large number of bills having passed committees, the number of bills considered on the floors of each chamber of the General Assembly grew as well.
With only one more week of committee meetings remaining, calendars filled quickly this week while Committee Chairs worked to clear their schedules of bills. CAC attended meetings of the Senate Natural Resources Committee, the House Elections Committee, the House Utilities Committee and the Senate Utilities Committee. In addition, we monitored other committees and marked the progression of legislation we’re watching on floors of the House and Senate.
This past week was by far the busiest week of the 2017 legislative session yet. CAC staff monitored six committee hearings this week and testified on legislation regarding Indiana’s water infrastructure at the House Utilities Committee and the Senate Bill 309 during the Senate Utilities Committee.
These are the issues of immediate importance we are working on right now.
