A Message to All CAC Members:
The year was 2004. Joe Tondu, a power plant developer originally from Michigan and now based in Texas, had set his sights on New Carlisle, Indiana, a small town outside of South Bend. Undeterred by his recent unsuccessful attempt to site a conventional coal plant in Manistee, Michigan, he began to spin the benefits of coal gasification to local officials, unions, and businesses in the South Bend area. Unbeknownst to Joe, he was about to run into a community-organized buzz saw. The citizens of New Carlisle rallied to protect their property values, their water supply, their air quality, and the concept of sustainable development. They rose to the occasion with fierce but thoughtful determination and stopped Mr. Tondu in his tracks.
In New Carlisle, it was people banding together and working together with the common goal to protect their families, friends and community that made them victorious. There are many stories of people joining together with common purpose, and Citizens Action Coalition has always helped and relied upon communities just like yours to organize and fight for each other.
Please join us on November 7, 2009 to celebrate, as we explore effective citizen action at CAC's annual meeting. If you've ever wanted to do more, this moment belongs to you. This is an opportunity for you to enjoy learning more about the work we at CAC do every day, and how all of us, working together with hope, determination and principled advocacy, can reclaim our rights and responsibilities as citizens!
We urge you to attend our meeting. Please RSVP as soon as possible! There is limited seating available, so register soon. Thank you again for your generous support over the years!
Sincerely,
Grant Smith
CAC Executive Director

A Message to All CAC Members:
The work has never been more important than now. New research has demonstrated that Indiana and the United States can be carbon-free and nuclear-free in 30 to 40 years. Significant progress can be made immediately to avoid new power plants and phase out older ones with off-the-shelf technology, at monumental savings to both residential and business ratepayers. However, the coal, nuclear and utility industries are lobbying heavily, at both the state and federal levels, to influence policy makers and the media, and to condition the public to accept coal-fired and nuclear power plants as a necessity, now and into the future.
The choice is clear. We the people have more than the right to ask for change. We have the responsibility to work for change: for a better quality of life. We must continue to oppose an energy policy mired in greed, corruption and arrogance; and we must strengthen our effort to implement a common sense “citizens’ energy policy.” Such a policy would emphasize lower utility rates, secure jobs, overall economic stability, and a cleaner environment and better health for all citizens, including measures to mitigate and reverse the scourge of global warming.
However, we must be armed with information and tools to achieve the goal of a clean and affordable energy policy. At CAC’s 2008 Annual Meeting, citizens will learn how to shift the energy sector from dirty and costly to lean and green. We will also present the public policy options necessary to transform the energy economy, and we will explore new ways to effectively approach our local and state elected officials on this issue of utmost importance to us all. Let your voice be heard. Our future, and the future of the coming generations, is in our hands.
We urge you to attend our meeting. Please RSVP as soon as possible! There is limited seating available, so register soon. Thank you again for your generous support over the years!
Sincerely,
Grant Smith
CAC Executive Director

A Message to All CAC Members:
Buildings use almost 40% of the total energy consumption in the United States. We waste billions of dollars each year because our buildings, by and large, are not energy efficient. Homes as well as commercial buildings are not designed around efficiency standards nor are our building codes up to snuff in most areas of the country.
Homeownership has been the cornerstone of American economic justice for decades. However, opportunities for homeownership are dwindling. The household budget is under siege by less than ethical lending schemes, the shifting of property taxes from businesses to homeowners, and ever increasing heating and electric bills.
At the annual meeting we will explore the awesome power of energy efficiency to enhance home affordability and to create a hopeful world for future generations. This is not just an issue of immediate cost savings. It is about creating a more just society and leaving a positive legacy. From the individual to the broader arena of public policy, we can act now to greatly improve quality of life for all and work to solve global warming while we address our collective, fundamental desire to create a better life for ourselves.
Please attend our meeting and get involved in the discussion. Please RSVP by November 27th but sooner if possible. There is limited seating available to us.
Thank you for your great support over the years.
Sincerely,
Grant Smith
CAC Executive Director
