Vectren/CenterPoint Gas Rate Hike (2021)
Vectren South customers will see a rate hike of $20.5 million, while Vectren North customers will see a rate decrease of $5.9 million.
Vectren (CenterPoint) 2021 Gas Rate Cases
Vectren/CenterPoint is seeking to raise rates and the monthly fixed customer charge for customers of both of their Indiana gas utilities, although the increases differ substantially. These rate cases are primarily being driven by the completion of the Company’s so-called seven-year pipeline modernization (TDSIC) plan.
Vectren South: Cause Number 45447
UPDATE: 10/6/21: The IURC approved the settlement agreement between the intervening parties. CAC did not join the settlement agreement, but also did not oppose it.
The approved agreement:
- Decreases the monthly fixed charge from $25.12 to $16.50 (Vectren wanted to raise it to $35).
- Gives Vectren a revenue increase of $20.5 million (Vectren wanted a $28.5 million increase).

This case affects more than 113,000 Hoosiers who are customers of Vectren South, which includes the nine Southwest Indiana counties of Daviess, Dubois, Gibson, Knox, Pike, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh, and Warrick. This requested rate hike would increase the average customer's monthly bill by approximately 30%, depending on the customer's usage. Included in this increase is a request to raise the monthly fixed charge to $35.00 from its current level of $25.12. The monthly fixed charge is the amount paid regardless of how much natural gas is used.

Vectren North: Cause Number 45468
UPDATE 11/17/21: The IURC approved the settlement agreement between Vectren and the intervening parties, including CAC. The approved agreement reduces overall rates by $5.9 million.

This case affects more than 620,000 Hoosiers who are customers of Vectren North across North Central, Central, and Southeastern Indiana., which includes all or part of 49 of Indiana’s 92 counties. This requested rate hike would increase the average customer's monthly bill by approximately 4% to 5%, depending on the customer's usage. Included in this increase is a request to raise the monthly fixed charge to $21.50 from its current level of $16.00. The monthly fixed charge is the amount paid regardless of how much natural gas is used.
